Door Kapital Cup 2025

 

The society played for the Door Kapital Cup @ Bird Hills GC

Firstly, on behalf of all the society, we would all like to thank Gary Major for sponsoring the day and providing some unbelievable prizes to the winners.

Also, for providing everybody amazing gifts on the 1st tee,  not to mention the golf bag for the lotto draw winner (Aubrey was over the moon with this prize)

The weather for the day had a couple of spells of rain but mostly dry and sunny with some windy spells later in the afternoon.
This didn’t affect the overall scores, with Mickey Sewell scoring 44pts to win the event, He would have been followed by George Sage who unfortunately played off  the incorrect handicap, therefore under society rules 2nd place went to Andy Parker with 38pts who beat Paul Mallinson on the back 9 who also had 38pts

Parkers Claret Jug 2025

 

The society played for the Parkers Claret Jug @ Sandford Springs GC

Firstly, on behalf of all the society, we would all like to thank Andy/Colin and Roly for sponsoring the day and providing some unbelievable prizes to the winners.

The weather for the day was not as hot as forecast to start the day, with a very welcome 5 min shower early in the round, these who teed off later though did get most of the beaming hot sun towards the end of their round.
The society played the Lakes & Park courses, @ Sandford Springs GC which proved to be a challenging test for all.

Winning the day with a score of 35pts was Barry Gough, He was followed by Grahame Roberts 33pts (B6) & Ian Brades 33pts (Colin Parker would have been 3rd on the day also with 33pts beating Ian on the back 9)

With several guests in attendance – there was a separate competition for them.

Winning this with a great score of 38pts was Tariq Khandker, he was followed by Rob Contreras with 33pts (B9)

The society played for the Sheetmetalcraft @ Hurtmore GC
With the forecast for the day originally not looking promising, the day overall wasn’t too bad, with a few showery spells during the day.
This didn’t affect the overall scores, winning the day with 39pts was George Sage who beat Chris Grant on the back 9 who also had 39pts, 
Martin White also had 39pts but finished 3rd on countback, behind Geroge & Chris.

The society played for the Len Horne Cups @ Downshire GC 

Firstly, on behalf of all the society, we would like to say thank you to Mr Len Horne for sponsoring the day and providing a great array of prizes.
The event was split into a low and high section for each trophy.

The low section was played for by the 0 – 16 handicaps.

Winning this section was Steve Walsh with 38pts, Followed by Pat Dowling 37pts (B9) and 3rd Paul Mallinson 37pts (B9)

The high section was played for by the 17-28 handicaps.

Winning this section was Gary Major with 38pts, Followed by Mickey Sewell 37pts and 3rd Bob Bussley with 35pts

Presidents Weekend 2025

​

The society played for the Presidents Trophy @ Manor of Groves 

Firstly, on behalf of all the society, we would like to say thank you to our president Mr George Sage for sponsoring the weekend and providing a fantastic array of prizes
Those who played would agree the venue for the weekend was fantastic, from the moment we arrived to-the moment we left all staff were welcoming and helpful in both the clubhouse and hotel.
The course was good condition with a few GUR areas around but overall was a very tough course to play as shown in the final results.

The competition was played over two days, with Grahame Roberts winning the event with a total score of 59pts, He was Closely followed by Andy Parker with 58pts and John Huggins 57pts

On a beautiful sunny day, our newest member Frankie Ruocco scored a fantastic 40pts to win his first trophy with the society.

The society played for the Hunters Cup @ its annual visit to Hinksey Heights GC.
After a dull start to the morning , The days weather brightened up and became a beautiful warm day. 
The course was in great condition, with the greens being extremely difficult once again. 
Enjoying the nice weather was John Huggins who scored 35pts to claim victory. 
3 players then followed all on 34pts
2nd place was Kevin Sowery with 34pts , (B3)
3rd place was Steve Walsh, (B9)

Aercon Trophy 2025
 
The society played for the Aercon Trophy @ Alton GC 
The day was a beautiful sunny day, and those who played agreed the course was in fantastic condition, with the greens once again being lightning quick.

Once again, the scores proved how difficult a course Alton is to play.  Winning for the third year in a row at this course was Neil Mallinson with 33pts, He was followed by Keith Palmer who scored 32pts beating Steve Walsh also with 32pts on the B9

Colin Parker would have been 4th with 32pts but unfortunately was disqualified under society rules for signing for the wrong score, Ian Brades was therefore promoted to 4th place with 31pts

Barry Warren 2025
 
The society played for the Barry Warren Trophy at Bird Hills GC, 
This was the first visit to Birds Hills for the society since pre lockdown 2020, Those who played would agree it was good to be back playing this venue.
The weather forecasters,  predicted shower spells in the afternoon, However this was avoided, and we had a dry and beautiful day, with most being able to play in t-shirts (a couple even in shorts)
Apart few bad patches/spots on a couple of fairways, the course was in good condition and the greens were Immaculate, probably the best we have played on so far this year.
Winning the day with 40pts was Kevin Sowery, He was followed by Chris Grant with 38pts, 3rd Andy Parker with 34pts who beat Chris Wingate on the back nine who also had 34pts and was 4th

The society played for the Eaton Bowl at Downshire GC
The previous weekends weather of 18°c gave those playing false hope that we were now over the cold weather spells, even though the day though dry, it was still cold with maximum 9°c.

The course was in good condition for the time of the year, but still a few ropey spots on both the fairways and greens

Winning the day with 35 pts was Roly Parker, who was followed by Kevin Sowery with 34pts, who beat Ian Brades on the back 9, who also had 34pts.

The society played for the Society Trophy at Hampshire GC
After heavy rain the previous evening, the course was a little wet in patches but still in good condition for the time of the year.,
However, the day itself , produced the best weather of the season so far (apart from 10-20mins of rain, which most of the society got caught in) with several players in short sleeve t-shirts. 

Winning his 3rd game of the season was Gary Major with 37 pts ( this despite him falling down hills, cutting his head on bushes and almost getting hit by a car)
He was followed by Keith Palmer with 36pts,  3rd Colin Parker 35pts & 4th Neil Wheatcroft 34pts B6

Asendia Trophy 2025
 
The society played for the Asendia Trophy at Hurtmore GC
The weather was miserable all day, with constant drizzle and cold wind, which unfortunately resulted in some players having to withdraw after 9 holes.  
Those who did manage to finish the round were glad of the warmth in the clubhouse at the end of the round.
The weather made the course tough to play, though all would agree the greens were still In immaculate condition and still very fast despite all the rain.


A few players seemed to enjoy the wet day, with Alan Husher scoring 41pts to win the day, he was followed by Mark McCarthy with 40pts

The society played for the Blackburn Bailey Trophy at The Hampshire GC

The day was cold but dry again (not as cold as the previous event) and the course wasn’t frozen this time, Conditions still made the course play longer than normal.

 

Winning the day and now back-to-back wins was Gary Major with 37pts

He was followed by Pat Dowling with 33pts (B9)

Founders Cup 2025

 

The society played its second game of the season at Datchet GC for the Founders Cup

With very cold and freezing conditions, this made for some interesting golf, causing some strange bounces all over the course and tough to stop the ball on the green.

This was reflected in the scores with only 2 out of 20 members scoring over 30pts

 

Winning the day and finally being eligible to win, Gary Major scored 34pts, followed by Carl Venning with 31pts and Paul Mallinson 28pts (B9)

We also had 1 guest in attendance(The President of Datchet GC)  Tony Ash, who scored a brilliant score of 36pts.

The society played its opening game of the season at The Hampshire GC for the Jim Wild Cup.

To start with the society welcomed in our new captain and vice-captain for 2025 Mr Martin White and Mr Colin Parker.

On a cold but dry day, Tom Husher scored a fantastic score of 40pts, however under the society rules he we not eligible to win the competition and was 3rd in the standings.

 

Therefore, with a great score of 35pts Terry Staniford claimed 1st place, beating Carl Venning on the back 9, who also scored 35pts.

End of Season

After another fantastic presentation evening, the 2024 season has now concluded
We hope you all enjoyed the year and congratulations to all the winners during the year and for Mr Ian Brades who won both Golfer of The Year & Eclectic 2024. 
All the society would like to thank our outgoing captain Mr Ian Brades for a brilliant year, and hope you enjoyed every moment of it.
With that said we would like to welcome the new incoming captain for 2025 Mr Martin White and his vice-captain Mr Colin Parker
Once again, we would also like to say a massive thank to our outgoing secretary after 26 years Mr George sage and wish all the best to the new secretary Mr Terry Staniford. At the same time, we would also thank Mr John Huggins who is also stepping down from the committee after many years’ service. 
I'm sure you would all agree we are looking forward to the new season already.
